Although Periodic Testing is not compulsory any company that provides facilities that consume electricity should assume that they have an obligation to ensure that it does so safely as to not impact the user of the adverse effects. Periodic testing to the recommended frequency is a means that can prove that a company has complied with that obligation both in the timeframe that has been recommended and documented in a third party unbiased organisation.
The Periodic testing involves a number of tests. These tests ensure that the proper safety protective mechanisms do exist and exist in a working order if a fault should occur. By carrying out these tests, it has a label of every possible task that could be carried out to ensure the safety of the workforce using facilities involving electricity has been carried out. The firm cannot be held responsible for not ensuring the safety of its workforce should a fault occur.
Letting agents are likely to refuse to place a rental accommodation on their books should a new periodic test not be available. Landlords themselves could face prosecution in the event of a fault that causes damage to life or property without this documentation.
